Pro Bono: Bankruptcy Assistance Project

LSNYC’s Bankruptcy Assistance Project (NYCBAP) partners with law firms to help debtors file pro se Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions and help clients with contested matters. To date, more than 700 attorneys have participated, providing assistance to over 3,000 debtors. Clients are able to clear their debts and start their financial life over with a clean slate. Cases usually require no more than 15 hours.

Scope of work for pro bono volunteers includes:

a.       Meet with the client and confer with LSNYC attorneys about the contours of the case.

b.      Analyze documents and investigate facts.

c.       Prepare bankruptcy and assist client to file petition pro se.
